SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Former Giants and A’s pitcher Barry Zito wants to pitch again in the Major Leagues.

Zito’s agent, Scott Boras, told reporters the 36-year-old hopes to land a contract for the 2015 season, according to CBS Sports.

The lefty last played in the majors in 2013 with the Giants where he posted a 5.74 ERA over 133 1/3 innings. The Giants declined an option on him after the season, at which point Zito decided to take some time off rather than retire.

Zito spent his entire 14-year career in the Bay Area. His greatest personal success came in Oakland between 2000 and 2006 where he was a 3-time All-Star and the 2002 Cy Young award winner.

After the 2006 season Zito signed a $126 million contract to move across the bay. He failed to match his prior numbers in San Francisco, but did play a prominent role on the 2012 World Championship team, going 2-0 over three postseason starts.

It’s not immediately clear how many teams will be interested in giving Zito a chance to make the roster.
